This Course meets Maintenance Requirements for the AGD and the New York State Board of Dentistry

Presentation by Mr. Erik Zalewski, MS, EMT-CC

Erik is a veteran paramedic with almost 25 years of experience working in the 911 system. He currently teaches a myriad of high school science classes, including Human Anatomy and Physiology. He is the Chief Emergency Expert for Have Dummy Will Travel, and is certified to instruct citizen, professional and advanced-level classes in CPR AED, First Aid, Blood and Airborne Pathogens, Oxygen Management, ECG and Pharmacology, Airway Management, Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support and Pediatric Advanced Life Support. Erik is affiliated with the National Safety Council, American Heart Association and the Emergency Care and Safety Institute. Erik also trains citizen-responders, CPR instructors, EMTs and paramedics for the Suffolk County Department of Health, Emergency Medical Services Division. Erik authored several articles and a short text on best practices when managing an emergency in a dental setting. Erik earned his undergraduate degree while at Susquehanna University, and a Master’s Degree from the State University of New York at Stony Brook.

Course Goals and Objectives

This course is designed for dentists and staff who may be called upon to perform CPR inside or outside of a clinical setting.  Students taking this course will learn single-rescuer and team basic life support skills with a focus on high-quality CPR, how to use an AED, and maneuvers to relieve choking for all ages. The class will also include additional assessment techniques, the use of a bag-valve-mask (BVM) for respirations and supplemental oxygen. This class culminates in certification through the National Safety Council. 

CPR cards will be issued to attendees from the National Safety Council.

Continental breakfast will be served.

The New York State constituent of the Academy of General Dentistry is an approved program provider.  The sponsor’s formal CDE programs are acceptable by the AGD for Fellowship and Mastership and membership maintenance credit.  This course is also acceptable for MCE Licensing Maintenance.  The current term of approval extends from 01/01/19 to 12/31/20.  AGD Code #219318.
