Course Description

Synopsis:

For whatever reason most of us leave dental school unsure of what to do with patients that have face and jaw pain that does not have a odontogenic origin. The typical response to jaw pain problems is a soft diet, moist heat, NSAIDS and a night guard. Unfortunately these treatment strategies can fall short leaving the practitioner perplexed and the patient unhappy with a less than ideal outcome. The reasons for these treatment failures are multiple but typically start with an incomplete understanding of what truly upset that specific patient's trigeminal system leading to muscle pain, compromised temporomandibular joints and nerve pain problems.

Objectives:

1- Provide protocol for assessment of the orofacial pain /TMD patient?

2- Clarify the difference between true TMD problems and other orofacial pain problems.

3- Understand the common risk factors leading to TMD and Orofacial pain problems.

4- Begin to understand  sequencing and implementation of practical treatment options

Course includes continental breakfast and lunch.
