The New York AGD Learning Center Presents
Bruxism and Parafunction: Behavior, Sleep, and Pain Integration
Live Zoom Webinar
Date: Wednesday, June 10, 2026
Course 7:00pm to 8:00pm
Course Code: 340
Presentation by: Moreza Bahar, Registered Physical Therapist
Moreza Bahar, BPT, MSc Rehab Sci, DPT, CCTT, is a physiotherapist specializing in temporomandibular disorders and orofacial pain, and Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Diagnostic Sciences at Rutgers School of Dental Medicine. He is the founder and clinical lead of Pacific TMD Care Clinic in Vancouver, Canada, a specialty practice dedicated exclusively to the physiotherapeutic management of TMD and orofacial pain. A panelist and invited lecturer at the Harvard Interdisciplinary Pain and Headache Rounds, he holds the Certified Cervical and Temporomandibular Therapist (CCTT) designation and is an Affiliate Member and Research Committee member of the American Academy of Orofacial Pain. His clinical and scholarly work focuses on the integration of physiotherapy within interdisciplinary orofacial pain care, bridging the gap between dental and allied health practice in the assessment and management of complex orofacial pain conditions.
Goals and Objectives:
At the conclusion of this webinar, participants will be able to:
1. Distinguish between sleep and awake bruxism using current evidence-based definitions and explain how each contributes differently to orofacial pain presentations.
2. Identify behavioral and psychosocial risk factors associated with bruxism and apply a structured clinical inquiry to screen for them during patient assessment.
3. Explain the bidirectional relationship between sleep disturbance and orofacial pain and recognize when sleep-related factors warrant referral or co-management.
4. Integrate physiotherapy and behavioral health perspectives into a practical interdisciplinary management framework for bruxism-related orofacial pain that extends beyond occlusal appliance therapy.
