Course Description:

This engaging, game-based session offers dental professionals and students a dynamic opportunity to review key concepts through a Jeopardy-style competition. Focused on the dental management of medically complex patients, participants will test their knowledge, sharpen their clinical reasoning skills, and compete individually for prizes.

The evening promotes a fun and interactive review of essential material relevant to general practice.

 

Course Goals:

  • To reinforce fundamental knowledge necessary for safe and effective general dental practice.
  • To enhance individual clinical decision-making, especially in the context of medically complex patients.

Learning Objectives:
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  1. Identify key medical conditions that impact dental care and understand their clinical implications.
  2. Apply evidence-based strategies for modifying dental treatment in patients with systemic diseases.
  3. Recognize potential complications and appropriate management strategies in medically compromised individuals.
  4. Independently analyze and respond to time-sensitive clinical questions under game-based conditions.
  5. Reflect on knowledge gaps and areas for continued professional development.

Sample Topics Covered May Include:

  • Cardiovascular conditions and anticoagulation management
  • Diabetes and glycemic control in dental settings
  • Infectious diseases and infection control protocols
  • Renal disease and treatment considerations for dialysis patients
  • Immunocompromised patients, including transplant recipients
  • Guidelines for antibiotic prophylaxis
  • Recognition and management of medical emergencies in the dental office

All Participants Will Earn 2hrs of CE Credits in Electives

The New York State constituent of the Academy of General Dentistry is an approved program provider.  The sponsor’s formal CDE programs are acceptable by the AGD for Fellowship and Mastership and membership maintenance credit.  This course is also acceptable for MCE Licensing Maintenance.  The current term of approval extends from 01/01/23 to 12/31/25.  AGD Code #219318.
